Event description
This seminar provides an exploration of developmental trauma and its impact on the development of children and young people.

About this event

Developmental trauma describes trauma from within early relationships that impacts on the child’s development, emotional wellbeing, sense of identity and experience of relationships.

Early experiences such as separation, loss, hospitalization, parental illness and inadequate parenting are likely to leave their mark. Children and young people traumatised within their early caregiving environments are highly vulnerable with an increased risk of lifelong behavioural, mental health and relationship difficulties.

This seminar provides an exploration of developmental trauma and its impact on the development of children and young people. We will consider how we can support these young people, with a particular emphasis on providing safe, open and engaged relationships that can rebuild security and trust.

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Parenting and Practice (DDP) is one relationship focused model that can guide parents and practitioners in ways of being that support children and adolescents living with the consequences of developmental trauma. We will explore DDP as a model which can guide parents, educators and therapists, allowing children to experience healthy relational environments that can support them to heal, grow and thrive.

The learning objectives of the Seminar are:

- How developmental trauma impacts the development of Children and young people.

- How to support and rebuild security and trust for these young people

- Theoretical and practical considerations

Eligibility

This day is open to anyone wishing to attend who is working with children and young people.
