Overview

Join Bookmark and The Bell Foundation for practical strategies to help EAL learners build reading skills, confidence and a love of books.

About the Session

This free interactive training session, delivered in partnership with The Bell Foundation, will introduce a range of practical strategies to support EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners in developing reading skills and a love for books. Drawing on resources from The Bell Foundation and current research, we’ll explore:

  • How to select age-appropriate, culturally relevant and inclusive texts
  • Using dual-language, picture books and wordless books to build confidence
  • Creating multilingual reading spaces
  • Developing spoken language alongside reading
  • Practical ways to engage EAL families in reading at home, including storytelling and oral traditions

We’ll also share guidance on where to find appropriate resources for EAL readers and ideas for involving families in school-based reading activities.

This session is the kick-off event for Bookmark's new EAL Networking Group. The strategies discussed will form the basis of future networking sessions, giving schools the chance to share experiences and deepen their practice.

Why Attend Live?
