Supporting Learners with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Level 3 (OCN London)
We are pleased to announce additional dates for this new course that will be in run in conjunction with the Dyscalculia Network that aims to train those working with neurodiverse children with the means to identify and support them effectively. We will be concentrating on dyslexia and dyscalculia over four days - you can do alll four or dip in and out ( Email us if you need to do that). Accreditation is through OCN London at Level 3.
Dates for the course are;
9th October ( Day 1 What is dyslexia - identification and co-occurring conditions)
10th October ( Supporting learners with reading, spelling and writing)
16th October ( dyscalculia day 1)
17th October ( dyscalculia day 2)
NB minimum numbers required to run the course. Enrolling on this course also gives a FREE entry to the Dyscalculia Conference in Edge Hill on 26th June ( normal price £150 per person. Booking all four days and Accreditation is mandatory for this offer.

Day 1 What is neurodiversity ? How do we identify dyslexia and dyscalculia in the classroom ? Using checklists and commercial screeners. Creating the neurodiverse friendly classroom.
Day 2 Supporting learners with reading, handwriting and spelling. Executive functioning skills and poor working memory difficulties in learners. Strategies and resources to support .Planning a programme of support based on a screening tool.
Day 3 . Dyscalculia part 1 - what is the difference between dyscalculia and maths difficulties? Screening for dyscalculiaHandling and understanding maths anxiety. The importance of language in maths . Executive functioning skills and poor working memory difficulties in learners. Strategies and resources to support .
Day 4 Dyscalculia Part 2 Supporting learners with dyscalculia/maths difficulties ..What is the difference between dyscalculia and maths difficulties? Handling and understanding maths anxiety. The importance of assessment . Helping with areas of relative weakness such as number sense. Creating resources and planning a programme of support.
The course is live online and delivered by Katrina Cochrane from Positive Dyslexia and Cat Eadle/Rob Jennings from Dyscalculia Network . There is plenty of opportunity for questions and interaction. You can take the four days and go for the accreditation (pending) or simply attend and be awarded a certificate of attendance.
There is a suggested reading list and you will be given all handouts and any relevant video links to supplement the course.

No you will need to do an additional L7 course to do that but this will allow you to identify through the use of screeners and checklists and effectively support that individual . We will provide information on further courses or do look at www.bdadyslexia.org.uk for their list of L5 and L7 course
No , Day 1 is an introduction to Neurodiverse conditions such as dyslexia and dyscalculia and this and any of the other days can be taken in isolation. You will get a certificate of attendance for each day you attend. It is possible to do combinations of days from November and December .
