About this event
This practical and informative session explores how to support learners who experience extreme anxiety and demand avoidance, often associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological/Extreme Demand Avoidance (PDA/EDA).
We will begin by examining the nature of anxiety and tracing the history and understanding of PDA/EDA. Participants will explore why some children on the spectrum show a persistent resistance to everyday demands, considering the three types of demand and the various forms of resistance that may occur.
The session will also focus on identifying and applying effective strategies to support learners experiencing demand avoidance. With a workshop-style approach, there will be plenty of opportunities to share experiences, reflect on practice, and discuss real-life examples.
