Supporting our young people with eating difficulties/disorders
Event Information
About this event
The workshop is designed to explore some of the eating difficulties young people maybe facing at this time, to understand the way food can be used as a coping mechanism in times of stress, to address what a parent/carer can do that is helpful or not helpful, and importantly identify what are the red flags to alert a parent/carer to take action to get help, as well as where to get help. The workshop’s focus is on providing easily accessible information in an interactive format which will encourage early intervention and prevention of the escalation of difficulties at this time.
Dr Beth Mosley (Lead Clinical Psychologist) says: “Parent feedback has emphasised the value of having easily available access to experts at this time and the opportunity to be part of a group of parents sharing similar experiences, this not only supports the understand that we are often experiencing some very normal responses to distress at this time and how to respond to these as parents, but also ensures that those young people who might be facing significant struggles get the right help at the right time; which we know is particularly crucial for young people struggling with eating disorders”.
Parents comments: “I just wanted to say thank you for this workshop tonight I thought it was amazing. It was supportive and informative. It covered all areas that I had questions about”
“Thank you so much for the training, I personally found it very beneficial – it was very grounding and reassuring to know that other people are having the exact same experiences. I think we can all be guilty of becoming insular and feeling like ‘you’re the only one’.”
