Would you like to:

• know about The Scottish Guidance for Supporting Parents with Learning Disabilities

• access a range of information about supporting parents with learning disabilities

• hear from Equal Say Advocacy who are an existing service supporting parents with learning disabilities

• find out about The Scottish Commission for Learning Disability and The Working Together with Parents Network?

The Scottish Commission for Learning Disability (SCLD) published The Refreshed Scottish Good Practice Guidelines for Supporting Parents with a Learning Disability. As part of The UK wide Working Together with Parents Network, SCLD has been working to improve support for parents with learning disabilities in Scotland through engaging with both professionals and parents.

Equal Say Advocacy has been providing advocacy in Glasgow since 1995. They have a project called Equal Say for Parents which helps parents and their children through Advocacy Support, Mellow Parenting courses, and a self-advocacy group.

Andy Miller and Oonagh Brown from The Scottish Commission with Learning Disability will discuss the Scottish Supported Parenting Guidelines and how these can be embedded into practice for those working in health, social work and education. Amanda Muir from Equal Say Advocacy will speak about their project, their ongoing work with parents how the supported parenting key features are demonstrated in their practice.
