This workshop aims to gather regional and local stakeholders to discuss, from different perspectives, the policies, and programs currently in place for the different groups of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in the BCP and Dorset area, as well as identify the needs, issues, and gaps. To this end, we are inviting community organisations, charities, BCP & Dorset council representatives, researchers and other groups working with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. During the workshop, one objective is to understand the dimensions of displacement and migration in the BCP and Dorset area, identifying the issues faced by the councils and the organisations in their work with refugees, asylum seekers and other migrant communities. Another objective is to understand, from the beneficiaries’ perspective, their needs, and the current issues they are facing. Together we aim to get to know more about each other’s work and experiences, to discuss and reflect on the national and local policies, programs, networks of support and integration that are in place. Our overall goal for the day is to identify areas of collaborations so that we as academics and researchers can help and actively contribute to the current infrastructure of support and integration. The collaboration can range from volunteering and exploring placement opportunities for our students, co-creating projects, and organizing joint events, to delivering applied workshops and trainings, as well as providing research insights to inform policy making. The workshop is organized by the Centre for Comparative Politics and Media Research at Bournemouth University.

How to get to BU: This event takes place in the Bournemouth Gateway Building, BH8 8GP in room BG-306. There is limited parking, please use other forms of transport or opt for the Cotlands Road Parking. To access the room, go to reception of Bournemouth Gateway Building and let the staff know you are attending the workshop and they will give you directions to the room.
