Supporting Survivors of Sexual Abuse

As well as developing knowledge of rape and sexual violence, the course will help participants build the skills to facilitate and respond to disclosures of sexual abuse, and effectively signpost survivors to relevant local services, whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

Those working directly with survivors of sexual violence and abuse in a range of contexts

Course Content

  • Definitions and myths around rape and sexual violence

  • Responding to survivors – conducting initial contact

  • Policies and procedures for working with survivors

  • Confidentiality, signposting and boundaries

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Use active listening techniques to respond sensitively to survivors
  • Confidently engage with their organisation’s policies and procedures for supporting survivors
  • Support survivors whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Effectively signpost survivors to relevant services
