Supporting the achievement of deaf young people in further education, Londo...
Tue 19 September 2017, 09:30 – 17:00 BST
Providing deaf* young people get the right support there’s no reason why they can’t achieve the same educational outcomes as other students. Are you an education professional who wants to know how to provide the right support?
Our one-day workshop, devised for all staff in colleges, will help you make sure that deaf young people are fully included in the life of your college. You’ll learn simple steps and suggestions for deaf-friendly teaching and use our Supporting achievement resources [www.ndcs.org.uk/supportingachievement]. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss a range of inclusive approaches and leave the workshop with practical ideas that will benefit all students in your college.
- Understanding deafness and its impact on learning
- How to use deaf-friendly teaching and assessment approaches and make reasonable adjustments
- Effective communication (including use of technology, such as radio aids and using communication support)
- Information and advice on how to secure effective transition into adulthood
Please note: This workshop is intended for mainstream staff who do not have access to local education authority training support on inclusion and deaf-friendly teaching or for those who would like supplementary or refresher training.
*We use the term ‘deaf’ to describe all young people with a hearing loss from mild to profound.
