Supporting Vocabulary Development in the Classroom
Overview
This course develops the practitioner’s understanding of how to support children’s vocabulary development in the classroom, across all lessons and learning.
Vocabulary development is a key across all lessons, routines, interactions and conversations to support success as they grow.
Many children require vocabulary to be focused on specifically, explored in different contexts, modelled often and pre taught.
The course aims to cover and explore how to support children’s vocabulary development in the classroom and day to day.
Aims:
· To understand the importance of vocabulary development in the classroom
· To identify children who struggle with learning new and specific vocabulary
· To learn simple strategies to support vocabulary learning in the classroom
· To understand the importance of pre-teaching.
Ideal for:
Any practitioners working with children who struggle with English, topic work, maths vocabulary, understanding language and using language.
This course is particularly helpful for staff who are developing their skills in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run.
Please note that our training courses and workshops are designed to be interactive, to ensure participants get the most from the session. With this in mind, we ask that you check to ensure that both your camera and microphone are working prior to the course.
Each person attending the training needs to purchase an individual ticket. Several participants may join the training from the same device but each participant must have purchased an individual ticket. Additional participants who have not bought a ticket are not allowed to sit and watch the training, either in or out of the camera view, and will be asked to leave.

- More than 2 weeks before the start date – no charge/full refund.
- Less than 2 weeks before the start date – full charge applies.
Transfer policy:
- You may transfer your place on a course to an alternative participant or to an alternative date at any time prior to the start date but please inform us of the change.
- Failure to attend a course will not entitle you to transfer to another course/date and neither will you be able to transfer your place to others.
