Event description
The Fostering Network in Wales in partnership with Brook invite you to a free webinar for foster carers and practitoners in Wales.

About this Event

The webinar will explore what digital relationships might look like; the complexities facing young people as they navigate this evolving field whilst maybe exploring their sexuality; and how adults can support young people to ensure their safety and well-being.

Young people have a wider access to the digital world than any other generation before them, and this access creates new benefits and challenges in how young people navigate this constantly changing world.

As part of this evolving world, young people are spending more time online building and developing relationships with people they have just met on different digital platforms. These relationships can be invaluable in helping young people in care build confidence, have fun, develop communication skills, share common interests and enjoy self-expression.

However, these new experiences and interactions, may also mean that you don’t always know who they are talking to and so, worry that they could be at risk of someone taking advantage. We know that care experienced young people may be at risk to unhealthy digital relationships, so it’s important to be aware of the benefits and challenges to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

This webinar will introduce foster carers and social care practitioners to the reality of young people’s digital relationships, how young people are engaging with them online and what impact it can have on aspects of their life.

The webinar will:

• Introduce the concept of digital relationships, what this means and explore what a healthy relationship is.

• Explore the risks and benefits of digital relationships, with a focus on how care experienced young people might be more vulnerable.

• Explore what young people’s rights and responsibilities are in relation to their online life.

• Explore how to provide a safe space for young people to think about the complexities of online life and relationships.

• Provide foster carers and social care practitioners with information about online grooming and ways they can support young people to stay safe as they explore online relationships.

• Provide top tips and advice for foster carers and social care practitioners to help develop tools to support young people.

• Introduce other additional resources and websites that can provide support and advice

Please note that this webinar is for foster carers and social care practitioners in Wales only.

The webinar will be hosted on the digital platform Zoom. We will send further details once bookings are confirmed.
