About this event

Session overview:

This session will cover why individuals may dangerously restrict their food intake, examining underlying emotional, psychological and societal factors. We will clarify the difference between disordered eating and eating disorders, identifying key signs, symptoms and causes. Attendees will get guidance on the language to use—and avoid—when discussing these issues, as well as the right questions to ask to assess risk while preventing secondary gain. The session will address what disordered eating may reveal about broader self-neglect, how to determine whether a young person is being truthful about their intake and when to refer to specialist services.
