This live webinar is to help organisations understand the Supreme Court Ruling on the Equality Act, what it could mean in practice, and how it can be interpreted so organisations can remain trans inclusive.
On the 16th of April the Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a woman should be based on biological sex, including in the context of the Equality Act 2010. A range of responses to this ruling have since emerged including from the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The ruling has understandably generated significant concerns especially amongst the trans and wider LGBTQ+ community. For this reason we are hosting this free online webinar in which we will explore:
- What this ruling could mean in practice
- How it could be interpreted and how organisations can remain trans inclusive
- What the next steps could be in terms of pushing back against the ruling
- How this ruling can be understood in the broader context of LGBTQ+ rights and equality
This session will include a presentation by Andro & Eve’s Gender Awareness Trainers and time to ask questions.
Please note: We are not legal experts and this presentation will not provide legal advice.

Who is the session for?
This webinar is suitable for UK based individuals, employees, freelancers, and managers who want to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable workplace and society.
Why are we running this webinar
In the UK, hard won LGBTQ+ rights are increasingly being rolled back. The Supreme Court ruling on 16th April in the case of For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers, determined that the definition of ‘woman’ does not include trans women and the term ‘lesbian’ only refers to those assigned female at birth.
This ruling and subsequent response from the EHRC, marks a dangerous escalation in the attacks on trans rights, and is likely to affect many LGBTQ+ people and women. In the ruling, no representation was allowed from trans led organisations nor trans individuals; the people it will affect the most. This moment must be a wake up call for allies to take action, to ensure the UK does not slide backwards in our commitments to creating a fair, equitable and safe society for all citizens. Every person has the right to live safely, with dignity, and free of violence.
