Description

SURGE: A glimpse into the future of the contemporary art scene

A glimpse into the future of the contemporary art scene, this year’s exhibition, titled SURGE will set a new precedent in exhibiting the work of emerging student artists. At the heart of this year’s exhibition is the concept of collaboration, between the art worlds future curators and creators.

This year SURGE will be opening its doors to the public on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April. The exhibition will be open from 11.30-16.00 with three curator led tours commencing from the front entrance at 11.30, 13.30 and 15.30.

Our workshop will be open from 12.00-13.30 and will be led by Royal College of Art MA Painting student and exhibiting artist Larry Amponsah.

Inspired by Larry’s work in the exhibition, titled Hunger, Curiosity and Urgency, the workshop aims to help participants widen their creative understanding of the making process. All abilities are welcome as Larry looks to prove that failure doesn't really exist by allowing the idea of chance and accident to prevail.

Building on the extensive collection of The Courtauld Institute of Art the workshop will integrate copies of never before seen archival material to create a truly unique array of works which could be added to portfolios.

If you are interested in a curator led tour or the artist led workshop please book the correlating ticket. Your ticket for the tour also covers admission.

PLEASE NOTE The drop-in collage workshops are suitable for all, including families with children aged 10 and above. Children* must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible family member who is over 18 years AT ALL TIMES.

*According to The Courtauld’s Safeguarding Policy, children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
