Meet the funders, gain new skills and network

Our Funding Fair features a marketplace full of funders and sector specialists, as well as an exciting programme of workshops and presentations too.

Event sponsors Charity Bank will open the Fair with an introduction by Banking Director, Carolyn Sims, while Jane Ide, CEO of NAVCA will speak about the value of trust and the impact of headline-making controversies on the fundraising ability of smaller charities.

Our workshop/presentation programme includes:

Good Governance – Barlow Robbins
Barlow Robbins will leading a workshop on good governance for charities and voluntary groups and will have helpful advice for voluntary sector organisations of all shapes and sizes. This session will help trustees, senior managers, fundraisers and practitioners get a grip on the latest legislation to affect their organisation.

Volunteer recruitment – Matthew Plumridge, MJ Plumridge
Volunteers help charities build capacity and increase public involvement so recruiting and retaining appropriate volunteers is key. Matthew’s presentation will emphasize good practice in doing this in a fun and motivational way.

Marketing for Absolute Beginners – Justine Aldous, Surrey Community Action
Aimed at very small charities and community groups with no marketing expertise, this workshop will help you to understand the basics of effective marketing communications on a budget.

The value of small and medium-sized charities – Alex Van Vliet, Lloyds Bank Foundation
Alex Van Vliet will discuss ‘The Value of Small’, an in-depth report on the value of small and medium sized charities. Alex will be presenting some detail from this report on the distinctive contribution, value and benefits of small and medium-sized charities to society in today’s fundraising climate.

Bid writing – Nick Bragger, Surrey Community Action
This workshop is aimed at fundraisers who are new to writing bids to trusts or foundations, or those looking to diversify what they’re currently doing. It will cover some of the ways to approach various trusts and foundations, and the differences between filling out grant application forms and approaching trusts and foundations with written letters.

Major donors – Louise Morris, Summit Fundraising
Can you secure big gifts as a small charity? This session will explore some of the pitfalls and must dos of major donor fundraising for smaller charities. Do you want to start fundraising for big gifts? Do you want to improve the major donor fundraising that you’re already doing? Do you want to understand why a philanthropist might give to your cause? Then this is the session for you.
