Once known as ‘Queen’s Road’ in the early 19th century, Queensway has undergone many transformations over the past 300 years. Today, it stands as the beating heart of Bayswater — a vibrant mix of people, communities, and contrasts, where historic villas, townhouses, and terraces sit alongside modern flats in a richly layered urban setting.
Join historian Mike Althorpe (The London Ambler) for a walking tour hosted by the Westminster City Council, exploring the evolving architecture and streetscapes of Queensway and its surrounding areas. As we walk, we’ll uncover the area’s social history and discover how its built environment has shifted and adapted over time.
The tour also includes a participatory workshop led by the Contemporary Art Society *Consultancy, who are developing a new public art vision for the area. Participants will be invited to share their own perspectives on Queensway and Westbourne Grove— its character, stories, and possibilities — helping to shape a co-produced vision for public art that reflects and celebrates its unique identity.
