Surviving and Thriving: 2017 Survivorship Celebration
Fri 9 June 2017, 08:30 – 13:30 EDT
Join us on June 9, 2017 for the 2017 Cancer Survivorship Celebration, "Surviving and Thriving!" at the Hershey Lodge. We have a day full of activities planned, including inspirational speakers and interactive seminars featuring members of our Center Stage: Music and Art in Healthcare program.
Our keynote speaker is Tim Harner, a leukemia survivor who received a bone marrow transplant and got a second chance at life. Running was always a part of his life, but running the Boston Marathon was the number one thing on his bucket list. On the one year anniversary of being diagnosed, Tim went from hearing three words that changed his life to hearing three words that gave him a renewed sense of purpose. Instead of hearing "you have cancer," Tim heard the words "you're running Boston." Now, Tim is training for the 2017 Boston Marathon through Team in Training, through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
For any questions about the event, please contact the Penn State Cancer Institute at 717-531-6021 (one survivor and one guest per invitation).
National Cancer Survivors Day is a celebration for those who have survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families and an outreach to the community.
