Event description

Description

A CPD day for trainee clinical psychologists, and for student school nurses, health visitors, district nurses, community children’s nurses and their mentors and practice teachers.

An interactive day exploring how you can develop resilience in yourself and your colleagues. Speakers include:

Dr Jennifer Oates is a lecturer in mental health nursing, with a clinical background in liaison psychiatry and community mental health. Her PhD thesis was on the mental health and wellbeing of nurses.

Katrina Scior, BSc DClinPsy PhD, is a clinical psychologist, researcher and trainer, with special expertise in the areas of intellectual disability, and stigma pertaining to disability and mental health difficulties. She is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Member of IASSID.

Georgina Hunter is a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She is studying for a Masters to become a mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) teacher at the University of Oxford, alongside working as a health visitor. Georgina includes mindfulness with clients within her Perinatal Mental Health champion role, as well as offering her peers regular support with managing their stress and improving team wellbeing as their Health and Wellbeing champion.

Dawn Querstret completed a BSc Psychology in 2010 at the University of London, an MSc in Health Psychology at the University of Surrey in 2011, and defended her PhD thesis at the same university in 2014. Her thesis was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and examined the relationship between work-related rumination (perseverative thinking about work in non-work time), sleep and fatigue.

There will be a networking lunch provided with stands from the Institute of Health Visiting, Unite and other organisations with resources to help you with coping with stress at work and developing resilience.

The afternoon will provide you with the opportunity to discuss scenarios with colleagues, and will end with a compassion focussed exercise run by Dr Anna Weller, who is a Clinical Psychologist from the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service.
