Speaker: Jonathon Porritt, Forum for the Future
York Environment Lectures
With much of the world mired in economic, social and security turmoil, there’s always some ‘fire-fighting’ going on that is more urgent than addressing what are still seen as tomorrow’s ‘long-term’ challenges around climate change, slow but inexorable erosion of the natural world, and even things like the build-up of plastic waste in the ocean. But for every short-term window that is missed purposefully to address these challenges today, the likelihood of us still having time and space to deal with them tomorrow recedes inch by tragic inch. So what can be done to encourage politicians, business people and civil society leaders to develop longer-term policy and institutional responses?
