WILTSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

SUSTAINABILITY FORUM BREAKFAST

CLIMATE CHANGE

“Climate change is the tragedy on the horizon - we don’t need an army of actuaries to tell us that the catastrophic impacts of climate change will be felt beyond the traditional horizons, imposing a cost on future generations that the current generation has no direct incentive to fix” Mark Carney – Governor of the Bank of England

With this statement, Mark Carney has highlighted the effects of climate change to the business community. In recognition we are focusing our November Sustainability Forum Breakfast on supporting the Wiltshire Declaration on Climate Change.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is a founder member of the Wiltshire and Swindon Climate Action Network, The purpose of WiltSCAN is to provide a forum and link up groups and individuals. WiltSCAN is encouraging increased action to tackle climate change and highlights the need for urgency. In so doing it will provide support and encouragement, enable the sharing of ideas and good news stories and help in coordinating activities and actions.

The aim of this Declaration is to increase the momentum for a low carbon Wiltshire and Swindon, by raising the profile of what is already happening as well as plans for the future. The Declaration is a commitment to act, promote and share experience of low carbon achievements. WiltSCAN’s goal is to get at least 500 signatures on the Declaration, including the Chief Executives and leaders of businesses, public bodies and organizations from all sectors. The intention is for the final signatures (from leading figures) to be added to the Declaration at an event (or events) shortly before the UN summit in Paris in December 2015.

Please find here a copy of the WiltSCAN declaration. If you cannot make the meeting, and still want too submit a declaration please get in touch directly.

This is your opportunity to get involved and add your signature to the Declaration. Our next Sustainability Forum Breakfast will focus on Climate Change and the Declaration, and will be hosted by Danone, one of our corporate partners.

Danone UK

In its Nature 2020 plan, Danone set ambitious targets to fight climate change by reducing Danone’s footprint and helping nature sequester more carbon.

Danone committed to reducing its GHG emissions by 50% between 2008 and 2020. So far, Danone has reduced its emissions by 42% since 2008 (organic reduction) and has successfully ‘decoupled’ its carbon emissions and the volume growth.

Through its forest footprint policy, Danone has engaged in a journey to eliminate deforestation from its supply chain by 2020. To help Nature capture more carbon, Danone set up the Livelihoods Carbon Fund, which should sequester 8 million tons of carbon over 20 years.

“At Danone, because we believe that healthy food can only come from healthy nature and that the energy and raw materials that we consume change the nature of our planet, we continue our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint. We believe in the power of the solutions that arise from co-creation processes with the communities that surround us.”

Emmanuel Faber, Danone’s Chief Executive Officer
