Workshop Outline

Businesses need to react to the demands of consumers, suppliers, and staff that have become increasingly more environmentally aware. Consumers now want to know how businesses act and that what they are buying stands for more than just an exchange of money for goods. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in all sectors, but how can a small business become more sustainable? And can that sustainability actually improve profitability?

In this half day workshop we will explore the idea of business sustainability and its different components. We will also look at the tools to assist you to identify and manage the environmental and social impacts of your business in a way that supports business growth. You’ll learn about sustainability action plans that you can use to measure where your business is, where you want it to be, and how you’ll get there.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Understand why sustainability is good for business.
  • Identify ‘easy wins’ to set you off on your sustainability journey.
  • Conduct a sustainability audit.
  • Create a sustainability policy.
  • Understand that basics of assessing your carbon footprint.
  • Set sustainability goals, communicate those goals, and measure your progress towards your goals by following an action plan.

You will also explore:

  • The first steps towards cutting your impact on the environment and drawing in the socially conscious consumer.
  • How to professionalise your sustainability ideas.
  • Communicating and sharing your business case for sustainability.

Workshop Presenter: Neil Leslie

Neil is a Business Growth Manager on the Building Legacies project. Sustainability and ethical trading are key areas of interest for Neil and many of his clients have social and/or environmental goals at the heart of their business. Currently clients are involved in food waste reduction, plastic reduction, IT reuse, eco-friendly product design, and land reuse projects.

Can I attend this event if I am not a Building Legacies Member?

Yes, if you are an SME registered business and have a London trading address, complete the registration form and once we have received your order, we will contact you to finalise the registration process.

How many people from my organisation can attend the event?

2 maximum

Do you take photos at your events?

'Yes we do, as part of our marketing strategy, we regularly take photos during our events to use on our website, email newsletters, social media and other promotional materials. If you are not comfortable about being in our photos please specify in your order and remind us during the event so we do not include you.

Is there a cancellation charge?

No, however as we cover the full cost of running the event, we would appreciate 24 hours' notice or that you cancel your ticket 24 hours before the event, which will allow another business on our waiting list to take the space or for us to reduce our costs.
