Join us for an evening of interdisciplinary dialogue on the environmental sustainability of artificial intelligence. This event features a networking reception with drinks and canapés followed by a keynote public lecture by Dr. Sebastián Lehuedé and a Q&A discussion session. Together, we’ll explore the growing environmental and social impacts of AI.

We’re hosting Dr. Sebastián Lehuedé who will give a public lecture that lays out the environmental impacts of AI and draws on his research to show how grassroots communities in Chile are resisting these impacts.

Keynote:

Sebastian Lehuede: “The environmental impact of AI and grassroots resistance in Chile”

This lecture explores AI’s environmental footprint through fieldwork in Chile, where local communities resist water-intensive data centres and lithium extraction. Sebastian will highlight the ethical and political dimensions of these developments and argue for more place-sensitive and just approaches to AI innovation.

The event opens with a networking reception with drinks and canapés, followed by Sebastián’s public lecture, an interactive Q&A and discussion.
