Sustainability Standards Essentials Training Workshop (Zurich)
Tue 27 June 2017, 08:00 – 15:00 CEST
Join us for an interactive workshop, delivered by ISEAL expert staff, who will provide practical, example-based training that delves into the fundamentals of social and environmental standards systems, as well as highlighting new practices and thinking from the field.
What is the workshop about?
The training workshop, delivered by global experts in sustainability standards and certification, will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the practices required to deliver credible and effective sustainability standards systems. This introductory workshop is comprised of five foundation sessions:
Credible standards and certification systems
This session will provide an introduction to the day and overview of what good practice for sustainability standards systems can look like. We aim to stimulate discussion on the concepts and actions that underpin effective standards, based around ISEAL’s Credibility Principles - a set of core principles that define the foundation of credible standards.
What does it take to implement a meaningful Monitoring & Evaluation system for sustainability standards and what does it mean for you as an organisation? These questions will be explored and an overview provided on the basics of an M&E system, underpinned by the ISEAL Impacts Code. The session will also explore how M&E can be implemented and embedded within an organisation using practical examples.
Introduction to Claims, Labelling and Chain of Custody
This session will give an overview of good practice for setting policies for claims about standards systems, and give insight for controlling the use of claims. It will also provide an overview of the different models of chain of custody most commonly in use by standards systems.
Good Standard Setting
This session will review what good practice, underpinned by the ISEAL Standard-Setting Code, looks like when developing a credible and robust standard, in addition to the implications for design and implementation in order to reach compliance. Trends in the development of new models of standards will also be explored.
This session is an opportunity to learn more about ISEAL’s Assurance Code, which aims to increase the quality and consistency of assurance in certification and accreditation. Latest thinking will be presented on the effectiveness of different models of assurance, how to safeguard auditor competency, and managing the tension between traditional practice and innovation, amongst other topical issues.
Who is the workshop for?
This workshop is open to all interested organisations and individuals operating in the sustainability sector. The training will provide an overview of key elements of sustainability standards so is well suited for new standards systems or as an introduction for new staff at standards bodies. It will also be valuable for companies and NGOs that are engaging with sustainability standards and certification and who want to know more about what to look for in these systems.
