Sustainable Food and Drink Network: Cornwall
Event Information
About this event
Come along to our Sustainable Food and Drink Network hosted by Future Focus and the University of Exeter, on Tuesday 10th May.
While this is a virtual event, there is a very limited number of places available if you would like to attend ‘in person’. When booking please select whether you would be interested in attending this event in person, and whether you would like to be included in the networking lunch that starts from 1200 hrs in the Environment and Sustainability Institute conference room, Penryn Campus, Cornwall. The virtual event will start at 1300 hrs.
At the event we will hear from a team of researchers led by Dr David Monciardini (University of Exeter Business School) and Dr Tiago de Melo Cartaxo (University of Exeter Law School) who will share their insights and proposals for a Cornwall Food Policy Pact (CFPP), inspired by international best practices. This will be followed by a panel of speakers from regional, national and international organisations who will share their involvement in this field and you will have the opportunity to ask questions or join the discussion.
Many cities and regions are developing their food policy to reduce food waste, tackle food insecurity and address climate and environmental degradation. It’s time for local businesses, third sector, and policymakers in Cornwall and the South-West to promote a bottom-up, connected, and circular approach based on local needs as well as national and international best practices.
The aim of this event is to gather insights about local and regional food security and food governance, learning from the experience of different local, national and international experts.

Sofia grew up on a farm in Portugal and has a background in animal welfare, food and environmental campaigns in Portugal, EU and the UK.

What is the Cornwall Food Policy Pact?
The Cornwall Food Policy Pact (CFPP) is a collective commitment engaging public authorities, business organisations, the third sector and academic institutions to co-design integrated regional food policies into measurable and long-term progress towards sustainable food systems. Our main aim is to tackle two problems in one:
- Radically reduce food waste by promoting hubs that recover food mainly from supermarkets, restaurants and companies’ canteen
- Give to charities and NGOs who distribute it to the citizens and local communities that need it most
