Event description
Project X is delighted to welcome you to the Sustainable Futures for Project Delivery Conference on Wednesday the 6th of October 2021.

About this event

In the United Kingdom, post-pandemic recovery plans to ‘Build Back Better’ are founded on an assumption of improved project delivery enabling ‘faster’, ‘fairer’ and ‘greener’ growth. This creates an unprecedented opportunity for academics and project delivery professionals to come together to share expertise and ideas that rise to the challenge of transforming large-scale projects and programmes.

This one-day conference considers how aspirations for improved project delivery can be achieved whilst addressing commitments for Levelling-Up, Net Zero and the Plan for Growth. We invite delegates to join us to consider how major projects and programmes can transition to a more sustainable future.

Why attend?

  1. Hear about the latest reports and policy thinking from UK central government
  2. Engage with policy makers, funders, industry and government champions
  3. Join our research and professional community debates
  4. Meet others with similar policy and academic interests

Agenda

The morning promises a lively debate between academics, industry and UK government champions to examine next steps in the transition to Net Zero given the recent IPCC’s report and warning from the UN Secretary-General of “code red for humanity”. Later we hear from the National Audit Office on lessons learnt for projects delivered at Speed based on the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out in the UK. The morning ends with a thoughtful discussion of the challenges of sustaining a reflexive learning mindset based on our latest capabilities research.

In the afternoon join our research teams and choose from parallel sessions on (1) How and when to apply data analytics to improve project delivery performance (2) Pathways to improve benefits realisation and the importance of leadership buy-in, governance, reporting and a benefits driven-culture (3) What works from our governance research. (4) Latest thinking on organisational capability implied by the latest Transforming Infrastructure Performance report from the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (UK Cabinet Office).

The final sessions of the day examine how we can come together to crystallise our ideas and plan next steps in our journey to a more sustainable future for project delivery and project delivery research.
