What happens when you try to research sustainably in a project that includes digital methods as well as promises of inclusivity and equality?
How would you write a “sustainability” statement for your next social science research project?
Join us for this hybrid event with both in person and online discussion.
We have learnt about ODA statements, data management, gender statements, and diversity and inclusion statements. Based on the quickly expanding landscape of the sustainability agenda in all sectors of life, and the newly formed strategic priorities of UKRI (as well as the University of Glasgow), it now looks very likely that sustainability statements will become a requirement for all research proposals (they are already required in some funding programmes).
This colloquium will involve an expert discussion on the interconnected agendas of sustainability, equality, and digital societies, followed by a working lunch where a case study is interrogated for its benefits and limitations (in relation to sustainability, digital methods, and equality) in our current times.
The final part of the event will include identifying what we don’t know, but need to know, to avoid unintended consequences, unsustainable research, and wasted resources.
The outcome of the session will be a white paper of questions that need answering. We will collaborate with other experts across the University to source the responses and resources to address these questions and co-create a cross-IRT resource in support of research practices that are sustainable, but also relevant in a digital world, and foster equality and inclusion.
