Event description
Our first event exploring the role of land in climate change and sustainability, using practical examples of innovation at Wimpole Home Farm

About this Event

Overview

For many Fit for the Future members, the role of soil and land is central to their work to operate more sustainably. This event will start to explore the role that land can play in mitigating and adapting to climate change, and in particular will try and cover some of these areas:

- what are the most sustainable farming techniques and how do we support tenant farmers to adopt these

- what does healthy soil and good soil management look like

- how will we need to adapt our soil management to meet the impacts of climate change

- what role can our land play in mitigating against climate change

The day will be based at Wimpole Home Farm, a National Trust working farm that has been trialling some of the latest innovations in sustainable agriculture.

Wimpole Home Farm is the National Trust’s in-hand 1,500 acre organic farm. The purpose of the farm is to understand, research and demonstrate sustainable land management to a wide range of audiences, from tenant farmers of the National Trust to our 6 million members. At this event, Callum Weir, the farm manager of Wimpole, will explain how the farm balances its three core objectives: productivity, promoting biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change. This will involve a farm walk, as well as a presentation about how the National Trust is involved in an Interreg project called FABulous Farmers which is investigating the most effective ways to influence farmers to adopt sustainable land management practices. There will be plenty of opportunity to see some of this work first hand and ask questions of the team working there.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The normal cancellation fee of £60 applies for any one who does not turn up on the day. If you are a non-member but are interested in attending then please contact Hannah Mann on hannah.mann@nationaltrust.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you there.
