Event description
Workshop to explore ways to live more sustainably.

About this Event

To start, we will consider what it means to live sustainably and investigate our own current carbon footprints, consider where we produce pollution or plastic and other waste. We will then look into our options for green local travel and how to holiday eco-consciously. Next, we’ll consider how to reduce our waste whilst having a wonderful family Christmas, green birthdays, party and entertaining ideas.

Before lunch, we will find out about making our homes more green. We will think about furniture, green energy providers, eco-opportunities available when making home improvements or extensions and briefly look at green self-build.

After lunch we’ll begin by considering water, gas and electricity saving measures before moving on to fashion and clothing, safer clothes washing and home cleaning. Next, we’ll consider how our cosmetics, body and hair and sanitary care choices can affect our planet.

To finish, we’ll have a look at our eating habits and how our food choices can have a big impact. We’ll think about meat production, vegetarian and vegan diets, meat and dairy alternatives. We’ll look into conventional and organic farming techniques, as well as the benefits of growing your own. I will finish with a little about the benefits to you and your family of gardening for wildlife and the options available for every size of garden.

Before we leave, every attendee will begin a living plan, to which they can always add, drawing on what they have learnt to start their sustainable journey.

By the end of the course it is expected that you will be able to answer the following questions:

  • What does carbon footprint mean, how is my family life creating carbon and what can I do to reduce this?
  • What’s more important, reducing my carbon footprint, or reducing plastic and pollution?
  • How can I reduce my holiday carbon, source planet safe cleaning products and reduce my waste at Christmas?

Suitable for beginners or anyone with a general interest in the topic.
