As part of Belfast’s “Family Friendly Festival ”, Sustrans is organising a series of community led bike rides for all ages and abilities.

The group led rides take place on quiet traffic free routes, generally the National Cycle Network with up to 20 participants in each event. These events encourage families to feel connected across Belfast by bike.

We have three events to offer:

1. Fun family cycle & yoga taster

Partnering with Maitri yoga centre Sustrans are pleased to offer this free cycle and yoga taster for age 12+ on Saturday 13 January 2018

We will departs1pm, from the Barnett’s Road/King’s Road crossing off the Comber Greenway and ride to Maitri studio together to enjoy a free session of yoga on  National Iyengar Yoga Day along with light refreshments then return by bike as a group by 5pm

2. Sustrans slow bread & bikes

Sustrans is linking up with Justin Nicholl, a local microbaker and supporter of the Campaign for Real Bread on a family friendly led ride for up to 20 participants along mostly traffic free cycle paths using both the National Cycle Network and local cycle routes.  The ride will be managed by Sustrans staff and volunteers, all trained ride managers, and will start at Shaftsbury Community and Recreation Centre for an exploration of what real bread means and how it is better for you, your community and the environment. The event will include a journey along mostly traffic free cycle paths, a discussion about what real bread means, the journey wheat makes from seed to loaf and an introduction into looking after a sourdough starter and making sourdough bread. There will be a hands on demo in making flatbreads, with opportunities for participants to work the sour dough. There will be plenty to eat and drink.
