Learn how to re-engage with your collection and restart your collection care routines

About this event

About the Session:

Since the first Lockdown in March 2020, many museums have had to place their normal routines on hold. This session will address how they can restart their collection care routines. It will include:

  • The risks affecting museum collections
  • How the situation may have changed during Lockdowns and periods with reduced staff (paid and volunteer)
  • How to assess the situation in their museum and decide on priorities
  • How to create a Collection Care Plan to address their museum’s needs
  • How to implement their Plan

Who should attend?

This session is suitable for anyone working in a museum (paid or volunteer) who wants to know how to look after and work with the collection and how to plan for its survival. No previous experience or training is necessary.

What will you learn?

Attendees will learn:

  • What risks affect museum collections and how these may have changed during recent Lockdowns and staff shortages
  • How to assess the situation in their museum
  • How to plan for improved Collections Care
  • Actions they can undertake to improve collection care

Delegates are welcome to bring specific questions and issues to the session. If possible they should read their museum’s Collection Care & Conservation Policy and Plan before the session.

Session Leader:

Helena Jaeschke is an accredited conservator with a degree in archaeological conservation and more than 40 years’ experience working with museums and collections in the UK and overseas. She supports museums across the southwest with all aspects of caring for their collections.She is currently running the Pest Partners project to help historic collections across the south west

How will this session be delivered and what equipment do I need?

This session will be delivered online using Zoom a cloud based video conferencing service. The service is free to use, all you need is either a laptop, tablet/ iPad or phone. Your device will need to be able to stream video and sound. If you are using a laptop you can simply connect via your web browser. If using a tablet/ iPad or phone you will need to download the app (free to download) to connect to the session. Full instructions on how to join the session will be issued direct to the email address provided at the point of booking before the session takes place.
