Overview

Learn about logging all objects coming into your museum's care.

In this session we will focus on the Spectrum 5.1 procedure, Object entry. This procedure includes logging all objects coming into your care for whatever reason, including loans, enquiries and potential acquisitions. We will look at how to complete an Entry Form and how to assess and mitigate risks involved with objects coming into your museum.

There will be opportunities to ask questions during the session, as well as share ideas with other attendees.

This session is workshop style with breakout rooms. There will be a 10 minute break around 11am.

Who should attend?

Trustees, managers, beginners, volunteers.

What will you learn?

By the end of the session, attendees will:

  • Understand the Spectrum requirements and policy guidance for Object entry.
  • Understand the Spectrum suggested procedure for Object entry.
  • Understand the importance of having clear ownership of collections in relation to the MA’s Code of Ethics and the Accreditation standard.

About the trainer

Anna Rhodes (Collections Trust) delivers in-person and online events and training. She has over 15 years collections management experience having worked at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Macclesfield Museums, Science and Industry Museum, Manchester and the Wordsworth Trust. She has experience across a variety of collections but has a particular interest in art and ceramics. She holds an MA in Art History and the Museums Association AMA.

How will this session be delivered and what equipment do I need?

This session will be delivered online using Zoom a cloud based video conferencing service. The service is free to use, all you need is either a laptop, tablet/ iPad or phone. Your device will need to be able to stream video and sound. If you are using a laptop you can simply connect via your web browser. If using a tablet/ iPad or phone you will need to download the app (free to download) to connect to the session.
