About this event
Forward planning has never been as tricky as it is in a pandemic world. This course will give you the tools to tackle the complex challenge of planning, with greater confidence for the unpredictable future we are facing.
The session will cover:
- Thinking about and imagining alternative futures, including getting to ready to plan in a VUCA* world.
- An introduction to using scenario planning and working with business models in the new abnormal.
- Exploring ‘design thinking’ to build confidence in your chosen future path.
- Ways to gather insightful data, and free techniques for prototyping, sensitivity analysis, and engaging with potential target customers.
(* VUCA is an acronym that stands for volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous.)

Who should attend?
This course is aimed at senior managers, volunteers and trustees who are responsible for business planning in their museum, and who recognise that a new creative approach to the process is needed.

The trainer
Susan J Royce is an independent consultant and chartered accountant. She works with charities and social enterprises, mainly in the arts and cultural sector, to develop and implement business models that are socially valuable and financially viable.
Susan has acted as a consultant for Arts Council England’s major change programmes, and worked with a diverse group of arts and cultural organisations. She regularly leads workshops on business modelling, strategy development and change, and has developed advice and guidance on business planning, charity finance and managing financial difficulty.
How will this session be delivered, and what equipment do you need?
This session will be delivered online using Zoom: a cloud-based video conferencing service. The service is free to use; all you need is either a laptop, tablet/iPad or smartphone. Your device must be able to stream video and sound.
If you are using a laptop, you can simply connect through your web browser. If using a tablet/ iPad or smartphone, you will need to download the Zoom app (free) to connect to the session. Full instructions on how to join the session will be sent to the email address provided at the point of booking, before the session takes place.
