This session will explore the Spectrum Collections review procedure, looking at how collections reviews can be used as part of good collections management practice.
We will discuss:
- How collections reviews are a valuable tool that enable museums to better understand the collections in their care.
- Some of the different uses of reviews including understanding significance, identifying opportunities for developing collections, and rationalisation.
- Examples of existing review methodologies, that might be adapted.
- Documenting and using the results of a collections review.
This session is workshop style with breakout rooms. There will be a 10 minute break around 11am. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout.

This session is suitable for trustees, managers, beginners, volunteers.

About the trainer
Anna delivers in-person and online events and training through Collection Trust's successful ACE funded outreach programme. She has over 15 years collections management experience having worked at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Macclesfield Museums, Science and Industry Museum, Manchester and the Wordsworth Trust. She has experience across a variety of collections but has a particular interest in art and ceramics. She holds an MA in Art History and the Museums Association AMA.

How will this session be delivered and what equipment do I need?
This session will be delivered online using Zoom a cloud based video conferencing service. The service is free to use, all you need is either a laptop, tablet/ iPad or phone. Your device will need to be able to stream video and sound. If you are using a laptop you can simply connect via your web browser. If using a tablet/ iPad or phone you will need to download the app (free to download) to connect to the session.
