For many museums, learning is at the heart of its purpose. Together we will make connecting with secondary schools less daunting with a whistlestop view of schools today in a post-COVID world. We will navigate through what is needed to succeed in museum learning, how to support school communities, and how to build and maintain positive relationships and partnerships for the long term. Find out where the 2025 Curriculum Review is and ideas for sustainable curriculum links.
This session is for small to medium-sized museums to explore how to create a learning programme for schools from scratch or reimagine a new offer. Find out what secondary schools really want from museums, how to encourage bookings and how to ensure your unique offer is well received. We will also cover encouraging and planning for behaviours. Zoom breakout rooms will be used for discussions and activities in small groups.
Who should attend?
This session is aimed at community or volunteer-led museums that may have tried a
primary-based offer and are starting a secondary school learning offer from scratch or
have had one in the past
What will you learn?
By the end of the session, you should be able to:
- Understand the needs of secondary schools today and how you might help meet those
needs and attract them - Know more about the National Curriculum for 11-18 through an overview and how the 2025
Curriculum Review is shaping up - Begin to explore how your collection might fit within the curriculum, ready for a team
approach back at your organisation - Be able to identify good (and not so good!) practice in museum and heritage learning for
schools and know when you have succeeded
How does this meet the Accreditation standard?
