Overview

Valentina Sabucco, Security and Protection Advice Manager for Arts Council England, will share guidance on keeping your museum safe.

Museum collections have had an unwelcome spotlight in recent weeks following a number of high-profile thefts. MDSW are delighted to welcome Valentina Sabucco, Security and Protection Advice Manager for Arts Council England, who will share best practice guidance on keeping your museum and collections secure.

Join us for an informal coffee morning session to hear from Valentina and have chance to ask any questions you may have relating to your museum security.

Who should attend?

This session is aimed at anyone with responsibility for any part of security of collections or buildings within a museum organisation.

Learning objectives

  • A Risk-Based Approach: especially when budget and resources are tight, priorities should be drawn based on the risks identified.
  • Layered Security in Practice: protection can be built up in simple, affordable layers from welcoming and trained front of house staff to effective operational procedures.
  • Creating a Security Culture: everyone from staff and volunteers to trustees should be involved in the security of collections.
  • Practical Tools and Resources: useful resources for crime analysis and security best practices.

Protecting collections does not have to mean big budgets or complicated systems, it is about awareness, teamwork, and making the most of what you already have.

How does this session relate to Arts Council England’s Accreditation Standard?

Security is one of the aspects that is evaluated as part of Accreditation.
