This session will provide a simple overview of the Annual Museum Survey (AMS) process.

This session will provide a simple overview of the Annual Museum Survey (AMS) process, why it’s worth participating and importantly how user friendly participating can be in 2026.

The AMS provides data that you can use in applications and bids and, if you participate, you will receive the results as thanks for being one of the 600+ museums who contribute each year.

Who should attend?

Delegates who may not usually work with data but are seeking some simple solutions to answers for funding applications, setting operational targets or understanding their museum in the context of other similar scale or type of museums across England.

What will you learn?

By the end of the session, delegates will:

  • Learn how to apply the data generated by the AMS 2025 project to their individual museum context

Vic Harding is the Programme Manager of Museum Development South West but also works across a wide range of projects which includes the development and operation of the Annual Museum Survey on behalf of Museum Development England.

How will this session be delivered and what equipment do I need?

This session will be delivered online using Zoom a cloud based video conferencing service. The service is free to use, all you need is either a laptop, tablet/ iPad or phone. Your device will need to be able to stream video and sound. If you are using a laptop you can simply connect via your web browser. If using a tablet/ iPad or phone you will need to download the app (free to download) to connect to the session. Full instructions on how to join the session will be issued direct to the email address provided at the point of booking before the session takes place.
