About this event
SWAN Places are in-person social meet-up groups in locations across Scotland. They are autistic spaces, run by autistic volunteers.
These local groups are relaxed and laid-back gatherings for all women and non-binary people who identify as autistic.
They are safe and confidential spaces, facilitated by autistic volunteers.
SWAN Places are not structured support groups, but rather an opportunity to benefit from community and connection in an all-autistic space.
You can share, listen, or simply relax among like-minded peers who understand and support one another.
Please read our Guidelines & Rules before you come along to any of our SWAN Places groups, to help ensure they are safe, supportive and friendly spaces.
Who is this group for?
SWAN groups are safe spaces for autistic women, both cis and trans, and non-binary people over-18 who live, work or study in the local area.
SWAN is inclusive of all autistic women and non-binary people, including those who are exploring whether they are autistic, who self identify as autistic or are clinically diagnosed (private or NHS).
If these descriptions do not match you, we ask that you do not attend our groups unless they are specifically stated to be for non-autistic individuals. If you are a non-autistic person wishing to learn more about autism, visit our website for workshops and training: swanscotland.org/training
Accessibility
We aim to make our groups as accessible as possible - they are run and designed by autistic people, in accessible venues.
If you have any medical conditions which might affect you when you are at a group, please let the facilitator know at the start of the group so they are aware of what to do should anything happen (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, etc.).
If there is anything we can do to make the experience more accessible for you please do get in touch with us ahead of the meet up:
stonehaven@swanscotland.org
You can see a picture of the space below and a video with more information about what happens at the meet ups.
Parking is available and a wheelchair friendly entrance is available at the back entrance to the building on Robert Street. On entering the building this way, turn right and the cafe door is on your left.
The cafe is a welcoming space set up with a centre table, chairs, comfy seating areas, tea/coffee making facilities (please see photos attached) there is strip lighting in the room, not all lights have to be switched on if a more subdued lighting is more sensory friendly for attendees. A number of sensory friendly fidget toys/art supplies shall be provided at the first meeting.
