About this event

SWAN Spaces are online social meet-up groups in locations across Scotland. They are autistic spaces, run by autistic volunteers.

These local groups are relaxed and laid-back gatherings for all women and non-binary people who identify as autistic.

As with all SWAN’s online groups, you are welcome to have your camera on or off and you can join in the conversation and use the chat function as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

They are safe and confidential spaces, facilitated by autistic volunteers.

There is no presentation, no set agenda and no obligation to participate.

Please read our Guidelines & Rules before you come along to any of our SWAN Places groups, to help ensure they are safe, supportive and friendly spaces.

Who is this group for?

This group is for women, both cis and trans, and non-binary autistic students currently studying at a Scottish University to meet together online and socialise in a safe space

- SWAN is inclusive of those who are exploring if they are autistic, those who self identify as autistic and those that are clinically diagnosed (private or NHS)

If these descriptions do not match you we would ask that you do not attend our group

Accessibility

We aim to make our groups as accessible as possible. You are free to participate as little or as much as you feel comfortable - talk, join in the text chat, stim, bring your pets along, or just watch and listen with your camera on or off.

If there is anything we can do to make the experience more accessible for you please do get in touch with us ahead of the meet up students@swanscotland.org

Frequently asked questions

Where can I read the Rules and Guidelines for the group?

You can read all our all rules and guidelines here: https://swanscotland.org/uploads/files/SWAN_Places_Rules___Guidelines.pdf

Is the group strictly for over 18s only?

Yes, the group is strictly for people aged 18 and over. We aim to create a space that is supportive and appropriate for adults, so participants must be at least 18 years old to attend.

What happens at the group?

This is not a structured support group, but rather an opportunity to benefit from community and connection in an all-autistic space. You can share, listen, or simply relax among like-minded peers who understand and support one another.

Can I access one to one support at this group?

While our peer social meet-ups offer valuable connection and peer support they are not intended to provide crisis intervention or one-on-one support. Please email our digital volunteers if you need information on support groups that might be suitable. info@swanscotland.org
