Event description

Description

This year marks a 110 years of Swarthmore! And to celebrate we are embarking on a series of debates.

Swarthmore was established in 1909, and was always a place for open debate, challenge and providing people with an opportunity to speak out for a social injustice.

By holding these debates we are looking to bring some of that original philosophy back to Swarthmore, and offer an opportunity for open public debate in Leeds on topical issues

Join us for our first debate in our series for 2019 on the 21st of January 6pm – 8pm; this debate will be on Universal Credit based on the following motion:

“This motion proposes that the implementation of the Universal Credit System is fundamentally flawed, and therefore the system needs to be reviewed to ensure that all people are treated humanely.”

There will be a range of informed speakers to talk through the motion with a vote at the beginning and then again at the end. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Come and join us and have your say.

Free to attend with a suggested donation of £3
