Description

Fundraising Talk with BBC TV’s Antiques Roadshow Glass Specialist, Andy McConnell.

Scandinavian House was a Swedish Mission Church on Linthorpe Road, In the early 60’s its new Swedish designed, modernist building opened on the same site.

Now a Community Art Studio, the new leaseholder was keen to find out more about its history. Knowing it was a hidden gem in Teesside, she contacted Design Historian, Sean Simms a professional and qualified design historian with expertise in 20th Century design. His professional judgement that they are of significant architectural merit. He has had their significance supported with a second opinion, by leading Swedish Glass expert Andy McConnell, who also recognised their importance.

In this talk, raising funds for the windows protection, Andy McConnell, of the BBC TV’s Antiques Roadshow will talk about the Swedish Glass. He’s a highly entertaining speaker and it will be an entertaining evening for those interested in Swedish Glass and design. He will address how this incredible glass installation piece, of very little note so far, is of real importance. It is said to be perhaps the most important piece of post war architecture in Middlesbrough and a rare treasure for the town.
