About this Event

Event description

Let’s talk about hair.

For centuries, the perception, politics, and appropriation of hair in the black community has been a topic; in recent times the conversations and implications of this subject matter have been propelled into the mainstream.

This spans from non-black celebrities coming under fierce scrutiny for appropriating black hairstyles to artists like Solange Knowles releasing music just to highlight the frustrations experienced by those from the community.

Led by Cienna Davis of Soul Sisters, this workshop delves into the history of this subject, providing context for questions like, “If I’m white, why can’t I have braids?”, or “Why is it wrong for me to touch an afro?”

This event is open to people of all identities, but we ask allies and guests who plan to join this event to be mindful of the purpose of this event, and be aware of any space they may be taking up.
