SWGfL are pleased to join forces with TikTok to bring a free online event that explores the impact and findings around media literacy!
About this event
SWGfL is joining forces with TikTok along with guest speakers from Ofcom and DCMS for a free online event, exclusively for professionals working with children and young people, to better understand media literacy.
Media literacy refers to 'the ability to use, understand and create media and communications in a variety of contexts'. (Ofcom). With more time than ever being spent online, improving media literacy among professionals working with children is a key priority of the Government’s Online Media Literacy Strategy, launched earlier this year.
This exclusive event will explore what media literacy means in 2021. Ourselves and TikTok will share the latest insights, as well as useful tools and resources for teachers. The discussion will cover:
• The steps TikTok is taking to protect young people, how to use settings on the platform and tips to improve your experience
• The findings of TikTok's global research project on online challenges and hoaxes, including the publication of new online resources.
• A new TikTok checklist to view and download from SWGfL, as well as details on the new SWGfL TikTok account.
• Our own ProjectEVOLVE toolkit based on insights from digital development in children and young people
• Crucial information and updates from the Professionals Online Safety Helpline
• Q&A with our expert speakers, panel and an exclusive opportunity to ask your questions to TikTok!
We hope you’ll be able to join us for this fascinating insight into media literacy. Please note, tickets are limited so book now to ensure your free place!
