Scottish Women’s Institutes invites you to an inspiring evening with author and fashion designer Jennifer Futter, as she presents her memoir 10 Years of Unpicking: A Yarn of Love, Fashion and Survival in Nairobi.
At the age of 30, Jennifer left her Leith workshop, with nothing but her sewing machine and ambition, to embark on the journey of a lifetime in East Africa. She became Principal of the leading fashion college in Nairobi, navigating both cultural challenges and personal transformation. Her book reflects not only her own resilience but also Kenya’s story of transition just two decades after the end of colonialism.
Jennifer’s memoir has received fantastic reviews on Goodreads, praised for its honesty, humour, and heartfelt storytelling. She currently lives in Preston, where she has worked for over twenty years as a relationship counsellor for Relate and as a sewing tutor, alongside her volunteering and community design projects.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Jennifer discuss her remarkable journey, followed by a live Q&A.
