Almost a third (26%) of the average Briton’s garments have not been worn in the last year. Why not have a spring clean and bring those clothes lurking at the back of your wardrobe to one of the Swish and Style events in north London from December to March, including two in Hackney - at The Round Chapel Schoolrooms on 11th January and at Abney Hall on 14th March.
Bring up to fifteen items; for each item you bring, you will be given a token that you can exchange for another garment from someone else.
The events will include workshops where you can learn skills to take home and use on your clothes again. The workshop at this event at The Round Chapel Schoolrooms will be natural dyeing with Amber Joy.
Workshops at swishing events across north London will include upcycling, screen printing, repair, fabric dyeing, and Japanese techniques such as boro. There will be ONE workshop per event, so check the full listing to see if there are any other events you’d like to attend.
Everything is free!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Amber Joy creates beautiful pieces using natural dyes she creates with vegetable leftovers like onion skins, avocado skins, turmeric. In this workshop she will be teaching you to dye fabric using avocado stones (which create a pink effect) or turmeric (which creates a mustard-yellow dye). Take a look at the the video on our Facebook events page for examples from previous workshops.
To participate in the workshop:
1. To take part in the natural dyeing workshop, if possible please bring a piece of a light-coloured natural fabric to dye.
2. As with any craft that employs dye, there is a risk to your clothes so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
3. Workshop spaces are free but limited, so please sign up on Eventbrite to help us to estimate numbers. If you do not sign up, you may not get a space on the day.
We aim to make our events as accessible as possible, but please contact us if you have any accessibility concerns so that we can make arrangements where possible, to support your visit.
