Swish & Style in Covent Garden
Event Information
Description
Swap, don’t shop after you spring clean!
Almost a third (26%) of the average Briton’s garments have not been worn in the last year. Why not have a spring clean and bring those clothes lurking at the back of your wardrobe to one of the Swish and Style events in north London from December to March, including one in Covent Garden on 8th January.
Bring up to fifteen items; for each item you bring, you will be given a token that you can exchange for another garment from someone else.
The events will include workshops where you can learn skills to take home and use on your clothes again. These will include upcycling, screen printing, repair, fabric dyeing, and Japanese techniques such as boro. There will be ONE workshop per event, so please check back to find out which workshop you will have here!
WORKSHOP
Fast Fashion Therapy are experts in transforming clothes. They also teach the Japanese craft of #boro, a visible mending technique that creates a patchwork effect, and darning for fixing knitwear to maintain your winter wears. In this workshop, you will be able to ask FFT about garments you would like altered, upcycled or repaired and learn techniques so that you can continue to transform your clothes for the better.
FFT aim to make their workshops as collaborative as possible, participants are encouraged to share their ideas and advice with each other as well. So if you already have something that you would like to mend or repair, you can also bring it to the event to discuss.
Please note that all FFT workshops in the Swish and Style events will focus around hand stitching rather than using sewing machines.
