About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

Join members of the Surrey Wildlife Trust Legacy Society on Friday 10 October at 1pm - 4pm for a special Afternoon Tea and guided walk around our woodland nature reserve, with our experts on hand to help explain and identify fungi that thrives there. You will also have the opportunity to hear from our CEO, Sarah Jane Chimbwandira, who will update you on plans and progress of Surrey Wildlife Trust.

Important information:

The walk is approximately one mile through woodland and will follow footpaths with some gentle hills. We will walk at a gentle pace with lots of opportunities to stop and ask questions. Please do not bring dogs to this event.

Partners are welcome. Please ensure you reserve a place for each person attending.

Nower Wood is a semi-ancient oak woodland which may date back as far as the Domesday Book. The reserve is also a Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI).

The reserve contains hazel coppice, a small area of chalk grassland, a small heathland glade, butterfly ride and three man-made ponds. A number of bird species can be found on site, including Sparrowhawk, Woodcock, Woodpecker and Wood Warbler. There is also an assortment of tits as well as Treecreepers and Nuthatches. Adders and Grass Snakes are occasionally seen, whilst Roe Deer, Badgers and Foxes have all been regularly recorded.

Parking and meeting place:

Park in the lower car park and walk up the steps. These begin under the sign saying ‘Welcome to Nower Wood’. However, if you struggle with steps or you are a blue badge holder, you can drive to the upper car park.

We will meet you outside the Education Centre.
