Sylvia Legris in conversation with Mary Jean Chan

Sylvia Legris is a critically-acclaimed Canadian poet. She is the recipient of the Griffin Prize for Poetry, and has previously published one collection with New Directions, The Hideous Hidden (2016). Her new collection, Garden Physic, will be published by Granta in April 2022.

Mary Jean Chan is a poet, lecturer and editor from Hong Kong. Their debut poetry collection, Flèche (Faber & Faber), won the 2019 Costa Book Award for Poetry. Chan has twice been shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem, and is the recipient of a 2019 Eric Gregory Award and the 2018 Poetry Society Geoffrey Dearmer Prize. Chan is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes University.

Rachael Allen was born in Cornwall and studied at Goldsmiths College. She is the co-author of Jolene, a book of poems and photographs with Guy Gormley, and Nights of Poor Sleep, a book of poems and paintings with Marie Jacotey. Rachael has received a Northern Writers’ Award and an Eric Gregory Award, and was made a Faber New Poet in 2014. She is poetry editor at Granta and co-founder of the poetry press clinic and online journal tender.
