The second part of the The Employability Symposia takes place on 2nd February 2023. The first part of the session will be open to all PGRS and will provide some development opportunities around interview technique, interview questions and presentation skills.

This symposium focuses aims on supporting those interested in applying for academic roles in a university.

As part of the February Symposium, we offer the opportunity for mock interviews for academic jobs for those who book. The mock interview will need to be booked in advance (by emailing DoctoralCollege@wlv.ac.uk by 16th January 2023).

You will also need to complete an application form as part of the mock interview process (see the choice of Job Application Forms and a Job Descriptions on the Canvas landing page of The Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme - https://canvas.wlv.ac.uk/courses/9551 )This needs to be sent to D.Cureton@wlv.ac.uk by 5 pm on 20th January 2023.

The interviews will take place during the afternoon of 2nd February and will be carried out by people within the University who have experience of interviewing for lecturing posts, leadership roles and post-doctoral research roles. The interview will be delivered against the selected job description and the personal statement that the PGRS prepares. The interview will be about 45 minutes and will include 20/25 minute interview time; 10 minutes face to face feedback and some written feedback. Interviews will be conducted by senior managers at the University of Wolverhampton.

In this session Debra will cover how to deal with pre-interview nerves. She will share some tips about how to reframe nerves so that they are positive and benefit us during the interview process

Interview questions and how to answer them (Dr Ben Halligan)

In this session Ben will look at some of the common interview questions, explore what they are really asking and give you some tips about how to give a strong answer. Ben will also provide a space for a ‘Hot Seat’ experience where you can practice answering questions and get feedback from Ben and peers from within the session.
