Symposium: Sir Walter Raleigh beyond England

Description
Westminster Abbey will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Sir Walter Raleigh with a day of events in St Margaret’s Church on Monday 29th October.
Raleigh’s body is buried near the high altar in St Margaret’s, and a stained glass window - installed above the west door in 1882 - shows Raleigh sailing for the Americas, his imprisonment and burial. There is also a memorial tablet on the south east wall of the church.
Join us for this special lecture remembering the great Elizabethan explorer, courtier, writer and poet.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- There will be bag searches and it would be prudent to be able to provide photographic identification.
- It is not possible to enter St Margaret’s for worship or as a visitor with large or bulky items of luggage. This includes suitcases (including those on wheels) and large rucksacks. Storage is not available.
- Please note that there are no toilets available at St Margaret’s. The nearest facilities are in the Great Cloister of Westminster Abbey (entry via Dean’s Yard).
- The use of private cameras, video or sound recording equipment is not permitted in the Church.
