Event description

Description

The Syria Solidarity Campaign and Sponsor Refugees would like to warmly invite you to the "Syrian Refugee Community Iftar 2019", that is taking place on Friday 31st May at Haverstock School in Camden Town.

To celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan, and to encourage cultural diversity, integration and inclusion, this event will welcome refugees of all nationalities, as well as our host community in London, of all faiths. An Iftar is the traditional breaking of the fast where Muslims gather in the evening with their families in order to eat together after a long day.

In this event, we will talk about how Community Sponsorship gives power to local volunteer groups to resettle a refugee family in their neighbourhood. It is surely a big commitment, but hugely rewarding. Also we will be remembering the legacy of Jo Cox and how she dedicated her life to advocate for Refugees and their rights. Jo also was a prominent supporter for Syrians and their struggle for peace and freedom.

We would like to invite you all to our family, to learn about each other and create bonds of friendship and solidarity. The evening will be accompanied by Syrian music and performances. Local Syrian businesses and charities will have stalls where you can buy Syrian products and support humanitarian work. And, after sunset at, you will dine in the company of Syrian refugees now settled in the UK, with the chance to hear their stories firsthand. To complete the experience, we will serve you a traditional Syrian Ramadan meal.
